Journey To An Imaginary Mexico With LUZIA
I received complimentary tickets for my review, but all opinions are my own.
Since living in Atlanta one thing I look forward to every year is the large white and gold tent at Atlantic Station. Once you see this, you know Cirque de Soleil is in town. I have been able to see a handful of shows and this year LUZIA was a pure adventure.
LUZIA premiered in the company’s home city of Montreal in 2016 and is currently making its first tour around the U.S. LUZIA takes you to an imaginary Mexico. We saw larger than life colored butterflies, hummingbirds, whimsical bugs, frogs, a panther, iguanas, and crocodiles. All done in Cirque fashion which is a beautiful feast for the eyes.
Singer Majo Cornejo and guitarist Rodrigo de la Mora lead a band in providing mesmerizing Mexican-themed music. Vibrant colors, amazing costumes, and breathtaking acrobatic performances will keep your attention and leave you speechless. Luzia is a living masterpiece, that will unleash your imagination, and immerse you in its living painting that can only be described as art.
There were so many acts that wowed us. Twenty-two-year-old, Russian contortionist, Aleksei Goloborodko’s will have you thinking he has no bones. The flexibility he owns is unreal.
Rudolf Janecek holds the Guinness World Record title of the “fastest juggler in the world” as of Sept. 28, 2016, and he will literally juggle faster than your eyes can keep up.
My favorite was the addition of water effects within the show. At one point it’s used to emulate the country’s sudden, drenching rains. And then part of an aerial artist who dips in and out of a small pool. But the lit sheets of falling water that take the shape of images. From patterns to images of fish, butterflies and more only to disappear on the floor.
Cirque is a wonderful sensory mix of comedy and acrobatics, music and performance, dance and stunts are melded together to tell a story. The entire cast was talented beyond words.
If you want to be wowed and dazzled and immersed in a magical and mystical world, Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA is a must for you.
