Fall is here and with that comes pumpkin everything, leaves changing colors, cooler temperatures, drier air, and dry skin.  Goats Milk was suggested as a cure but I wondered, can it really work?

Every year without fail, as soon as the temperature starts to drop; my hands start to feel dried out.  I must put lotion on at least 10 times a day.  Then the next thing I know my arms and legs start to feel itchy.  Yup, more dry skin.  No matter what lotion are body wash I try, I always have some sort of issue.

Then if you add in the fact that I am watching what chemicals we as a family are putting in and on our bodies, the search gets even harder.  I love organic, natural based products but often they are harder to find and expensive.

I recently found out about products made from goats milk and the many benefits it has for your health:

  1. Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids such as lactic acid which help remove dead skin cells from your skin’s surface. This leaves new cells on the surface of your skin that are smoother and younger looking.
  2. Vitamins. Goat milk contains many vitamins but is particularly high in Vitamin A, which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue and maintain healthy skin. There have been several medical studies showing that creams made with Vitamin A reduce lines and wrinkles, control acne, and provide some psoriasis relief.
  3. Cream. Fat molecules are an important part of making good soap. The cream that is present in goat milk helps boost the moisturizing quality of goat milk soaps.
  4. Minerals. Goat milk contains important minerals for the skin such as selenium. Selenium is believed by scientists to have an important role in preventing skin cancer. Selenium can also help prevent damage to the skin from excessive time in the sun.

From these benefits, I’ve have found that goat milk soap is a wonderful product for those with dry or sensitive skin.  It even helps with conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.  These amazing natural healing properties of goat’s milk soap has me reevaluating our current bath products.  Goat’s milk soap is a healthier, natural, and safe alternative to a lot of the overly processed, chemically-based soaps on the shelves in stores and maybe even your own closet.

So now the question is, how do you find soap made with goats milk?  Let me introduce you to a Rhode Island-based small town, family run farm called Travis Family Farm. The farm started selling naturally, responsibly sourced goat’s milk soap when their at the time, 8-year-old daughter Rachyl Travis came up with the idea and perfected the recipe herself. She became the farm’s entrepreneur at age 9 when they officially went into business selling Rachyl’s Goat Milk Soap.

Rachyl’s Goat Milk Soap never use powdered or canned goat milk and does not add water. Rachyl’s beloved Nubian goats are milked daily ensuring that the milk collected and used is the freshest, purest quality. Each individual goat milk soap bar contains over an ounce of fresh goat milk combined with organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, and organic soybean oil. Rachyl’s Goat Milk Soap uses organic ingredients to avoid absorption of toxic pesticides which can cause breakouts (for example – non-organic coconut oil is “comedogenic” which means it clogs pores and causes acne, yikes!). Rachyl’s Goat Milk Soap also doesn’t use harsh or toxic additives so you can be sure that you are giving your skin nothing but the best!

The product line has expanded into areas of bath and body and skin care such as lip balms, lotions, and body-butters.  They even have candles! Accessories such as washcloths and soap decks are also available and all products are handmade in small batches on the small family farm.

The Travis family was kind to send me their Goat Milk Soap and Body-Butter in Field of Dreams scent.

First thing I noticed was the amazing smell.  Both the soap and the body butter carry the scent in perfect balance.  Strong enough to enjoy and relax but not overbearing.

As you can from the pictures, the packaging is very cute as well.  Which is perfect for those buying as gifts.  Plus all labels stress that they are natural and chemical free!

Of course, I had to try the body butter right away and loved how it felt.  Thicker than a lotion and not greasy.  As far as my skin?  It felt instant relief from being dry and it lasted.  Both the kids and I have been using  Rachyl’s Goat Milk soap and body butter for over a week now and no one has dry skin.  My hands are healthy and I have peace of mind using both products on my children without the worry of what bad ingredients are going into their bodies.

I have Travis Family Farm, and Rachyl’s Goat Milk Soap bookmarked on my computer for our next order.  With different scents and products, I’m excited to try something new and even gift ideas for family and friends.
