Creative Discovery Museum-Children’s Museum of Chattanooga

As a numerous Trip Advisor winner, and rated one of the premier hands-on children’s museums in the region; we had to stop and play during our visit to Chattanooga at Creative Discovery.

The kids could have spent the entire day if I had let them. When we did have to leave it was filled with begging by my 10-year-old to stay.  Lil Man also had a wonderful time and with his sensory needs, hands-on activities were perfect for him.

Creative Discover is a multi-level venue with several stations. Lil Man has two favorites: River Play and Excavation Station.

River Play is wet.  Very wet.  But water coats are provided to use so kids are free to play as they please.  Children learn how rivers work with a series of channels and environmental factors.  This is also where the multi-level play/climb structure is.  I think we spent almost an hour just in this room.

Excavation Station is hands-on digging.  This is a Dino themed room where the kids can us dress up as an archaeologist and dig in the sand to find dino bones and other treasures.  There is also some really fun tunnels with different species of bugs and insects and their history.  If you don’t like bugs (like hissing cockroaches) you might want to stay in the main part of the room.

Diva really loved Arts Alley where she was able to make sculptures out of clay, draw, learn to use a printing station and different instrument styles.

Next was Culinary Corner.  At select times, an instructor comes in and the kids get to make a treat from scratch.  From measuring, mixing and getting ready to go in the oven.  Then, of course, eating what they made.  What I found interesting is the ingredients come from a rooftop garden right there at the museum.

The Roof Top Playground was beautiful.  The weather was perfect to be outdoors and the kids were able to try different machines that would work a swing or a ball obstacle course.  Being early spring the garden was just in the beginnings of sprouting but it was fun to try to guess what each plant was.
