Four Useful Home Improvements
This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own.
When you are purchasing a home, or when you want to upgrade your home, you probably have all of these ideas and don’t know where to start. After living in a few homes myself, I have figured out what I like. When upgrading now, or looking at homes, I narrow it down by not only what I like, but also if it will last over time with kids, or improves the quality of our lives and/or home by adding it. For example, white rugs and furniture just do not get along with kids and adding upgraded baseboards does practically nothing to improve the quality and ease of our lives. What does improve the home and lasts over time with kids are these items:
Upgrading your countertops might sound a bit crazy with little ones running around, but hear me out. Some stone is extremely durable and easy to clean. Quartz is practically maintenance free and is extremely durable and resistant. On top of that, Quartz does not need to be sealed like other stone because it is non-porous. Polished granite is another great choice and is actually the most common stone to find in homes. It is still a durable stone, but you do have to seal granite, about once a year, and you will want to wipe up all messes as soon as you can. Marble countertops are gorgeous, but they do stain extremely easily, so it may not be the best option for children. A new trend that I have found is stainless steel countertops. They are extremely easy to clean – literally, all you have to do is wipe them down with a damp cloth and you are good. You also do not need to worry about taking care of any stone. When it comes down to it, I would go for Quartz or stainless steel. Do some research and you will find what is best for you!
This is essential for kids (and animals if you have any). While wood is definitely the most tradition option, think outside the box and look into other possibilities, like laminate and tile. Lately, I have seen a commercial about laminate flooring – the kids are running around dropping things and there is tons of water and soap all over the floor. This is what a parent needs! I’m not sure what the brand is, but I do know that they now make water-resistant laminate, high traffic laminate, noise resistant laminate, and more. Tile is great because it is very easy to clean and it is more of a higher-end option, which can increase the value of your home. It is also very water resistant, so you do not have to worry about that!
There are so many benefits to adding window films. For starters, you will save energy. In fact, you will get a fast payback from all of your energy savings, in as little as three years. You will save money no matter what climate zone you are in. According to Atlanta business, UHS Window Tinting and Blinds, “an estimated 33% of cooling expenses are due to solar heat gain from windows. That’s why cost-effective, energy-saving technologies like 3M™ Window Films are crucial to protecting your bottom line — by rejecting the sun’s heat to keep your space at an even, moderate temperature.” UHS Window Tinting and Blinds is a locally owned and operated company that serves the Metro Atlanta area. They handle jobs big or small and always goes above and beyond in order to make sure that you have the best experience possible. The reason I think adding window films is a great idea when you have kids is that you will be able to get a more controlled climate. It could be an easy fix to constantly wondering if your kids are too hot or cold. If you are wanting to lower your utility bills, have a more controlled client, or add privacy to your home, I would definitely recommend checking out UHS Window Tinting and Blinds.
Obviously, this is not primarily for kid-proofing your house, but there are some perks to getting new appliances for kids! For example, the three-row dishwasher is fantastic for baby bottles and other baby items. On top of that, there are many refrigerators that have drawers that are accessible to kids, to store snacks so they can grab and go. Neat, right? Plus, who doesn’t love new appliances? When Mom is happy, the family is happy.
