As we look around it seems like kindness is in short supply these days. All you have to do is turn on the news and you are flooded with robberies, theft, murder and just plain evil. So when something good happens, I strive to share those stories. And when it happens to my own child? Well, then you get a post about it.
Lil Man Loves Orange
I will start with sharing that lately, Lil Man has been gravitating toward the color orange. If an object is that color or someone wearing it, Lil Man will stare.
The kids and I went to lunch with their grandmother. The restaurant is local in town and right next to a new construction site. While waiting, a group of men was seated next to our booth. Due to their dress, we assumed they must be on lunch break from the site next door.
Lil Man was fascinated with the men and just kept looking at them. I explained to my MIL that it must be because of the shirts they were wearing as Lil Man seems to love the color orange lately.
Kindness Of A Stranger
My MIL wanted to take Lil Man over to see the group. She politely introduced herself and Lil Man explaining he was her grandson. Then explained he has Autism and non-verbal, that he loves orange and she wanted to let him meet the group. Also, she asked about the shirts. If they were for sale next door? Turns out, the group was a totally different company and not on that site. So while the answer was no, Lil Man was just excited to meet some new people. He had a huge smile and gave a few high fives before sitting back down.
Normally this would be the end of the interaction. Everyone was kind and polite and made a little guys day. But I was almost brought to tears with what happened next. One of the gentlemen came to our booth and in his hand was his t-shirt. He has literally taken the shirt off his back and was offering it to us. He apologized it was a little dirty but if we didn’t mind that it had to be washed, he wanted Lil Man to have it.
Something so simple as a company shirt can have a huge impact and I want to give a shout out to the employees of FSR Inc in Newnan, GA. Unfortunately; I don’t remember the name of the young man, but all of the crew that day were very kind and pleasant to meet.
