The Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park is a 13-acre zoological park located in Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is known as “The Best Little Zoo in America” and is one of the smallest zoos accredited by AZA. With over 500 animals exhibited, representing over 200 different species, many of which are endangered, the Chattanooga Zoo is committed to engaging and inspiring our community to better understand and preserve wildlife by creating meaningful connections between people and animals. A Zoo that’s specifically designed to bring the animals up close to you.
During Spring Break the kids and I teamed up with another local blogger and friend and visited Chattanooga as it’s only a few hours from Atlanta, GA. Chattanooga Zoo was kind enough to give us tickets for review and we were ready to go.
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA ZOO
The idea of a ‘smaller’ Zoo is to give the guest a more intimate experience. Not feeling rushed or having to navigate through large crowds. Not to mention when you have smaller kids or in our case, special needs, it’s much easier to enjoy and have fun.
A new front entrance includes a gift shop, restroom facilities, a concessions pavilion, and an endangered species carousel. Once you enter the Zoo is broken down into six themed areas.
The most notable exhibit is the Himalayan Passage, which houses the zoo’s red pandas. The exhibit boasts the largest indoor red panda exhibit in the world. The Passage also includes habitats for snow leopards and Hanuman langurs. Guests are pulled into the journey of Marco Polo as you discover fascinating and wonderful creatures from the vast Himalayan Mountains of Asia.
Walkin’ the Tracks
Walkin’ the Tracks holds the zoo’s North American animals, including prairie dogs and white-tailed deer, and is themed around a railroad in reference to Chatanooga’s rail history. The Cougar Express has indoor viewing in a train car for the zoo’s cougars.
The Gombe Forest is home to the zoo’s chimpanzees. The Gombe Forest is an indoor/outdoor exhibit that features two waterfalls. The Donovan Interpretive Center features an indoor chimpanzee viewing area and other small exhibits.
The Corcovado Jungle is home to animals from the rainforests of Latin America, including jaguars, spider monkeys, macaws, and capybaras.
Warner Park Ranch
Warner Park Ranch invites you to experience country life with dromedary camels, pot-bellied pigs, and cattle. You can also get hands-on within the petting area with goats and miniature horses.
Deserts and Forests of the World
Deserts and Forests of the World Get face-to-face with some of the furriest cuties like fennec foxes and meerkats, some of the most dangerous reptiles like Mexican Lance-headed rattlesnakes and Gaboon vipers, and some of the most endangered like the Chinese alligators!
Chattanooga Zoo may be little, but it has huge personality. It is where you can get face to face with a chimpanzee or jaguar, ride a camel or check out some rare and venomous reptiles. Come by and see why everyone is calling the AZA-accredited Chattanooga Zoo “the Best Little Zoo in America”.
