The Chattanoogan Hotel is the only full-service luxury Chattanooga hotel. They are the ideal downtown location for memorable vacations with amazing views and conveniently located to downtown Chattanooga. We took a recent trip to Chattanooga for Spring Break and The Chattanoogan Hotel was the perfect place to stay. I received a complimentary stay, meals, and amenities to help facilitate my review. As always all opinions are my own.
The first thing to see when coming through the doors and into the lobby is the amazing fireplace. The Chattanoogan has elegant décor wrapped in comfort. And the staff was the definition of Southern Hospitality. And best of all, they were great with the kids.
CHECK-IN AND Accommodations
Check-in was very fast and easy. Not to mention friendly. In fact, we found everyone within the hotel, no matter where we went, was always welcoming and more than happy to assist our needs. Our room was a Double Deluxe guest room on the 5th floor. Although being one of the smaller rooms, it did not feel that way. Everything was clean and in great condition, including the bathroom which had a great shower and plenty of towels. Housekeeping did a great job cleaning our room daily. It was great to come back after seeing the sites to a comfortable room and beds. Everyone slept great.
All rooms have coffee/tea makers, complimentary wireless and wired high-speed Internet access, 32-inch LCD TV with satellite channels, a desk, and a phone. In the Bathroom, you have a shower/tub, hairdryers, and complimentary toiletries. Upon request, you can include refrigerators, microwaves, and hypo-allergenic bedding.
THE CHATTANOOGAN SPA
The Chattanoogan Spa which is open to guests and non-hotel guests is a full-service day spa. The Spa includes four treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, indoor pool, fitness center, and their Spa Terrace overlooking the hotel’s courtyard. And yes, non-staying guests have full use of all of the facility with a service. I was very excited to enjoy an hour of kid-free time at The Spa while I received a pedicure. Honestly, this was the most gentle and pain-free pedicure I have ever had. And it was great to speak with more of the staff. Everyone is pleasant and has a great knowledge of the area, surrounding restaurants and how to get around on foot or by car.
The Indoor Pool
The kids love the water and we had to be sure to include pool time for them. The great thing is the pool doesn’t close till 11 pm! So after dinner, you can let the kids burn off any extra energy they have swimming. This was my kids favorite time to go for the pool is lit up Blue (actually Black-lights) and it really gives it an extra sense of fun. Even with other families and kids splashing, the atmosphere was relaxing as the is surrounded by floor to ceiling glass windows all around. This gives great views of Lookout Mountain and more.
WHERE TO EAT
For dining in options, The Chattanoogan three options. The Broad Street Grille (main restaurant), The Foundry (a bar & lounge) and Stroud’s Sidewalk Cafe (coffee shop and eatery).
Broad Street Grille
Known for their Regional American Cuisine and an upscale feel, and all delicious. At first, I felt a little out of place for dinner but the staff made us feel right at home and were great with the kids. The food is a bit upscale in selection too, so don’t expect a burger on the menu. But you will find entrees like Filet, Salmon, and Shrimp N Grits. Broad Street Grill changes their menu weekly, so there may not be the same options when we were there. Part of this is because they are a farm to table restaurant, and get most of their food from local farms.
The kids and I shared Crab Cakes to start our dinner and they were amazing. Not too much bread and lots of lump crab meat. For dinner, I had the Filet Mignon over spinach and whipped potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and the spinach was seasoned to perfection. The kids both went with pasta and sausage from the Kids Menu. And our server Brian was kind enough to even make a special drink just for them. Unfortunately, I had issues with my camera so the only photo I have from our experience is Lil Man enjoying his broccoli.
Breakfast is much more casual feeling and the food is just as good. The buffet has everything from pancakes and eggs, to bacon and potatoes, even Cereal and fruit. And if that isn’t enough, they offer an omelet station where you can custom order any creation you like. I heard their Sunday Brunch is amazing. We stayed during the week so didn’t get a chance to sample it personally but it’s on the list for a future trip.
Foundry is right next to Broad Street Grille and offers appetizers, salads, sandwiches, light entrées and of course drinks! In the back, they offer a game room with billiards and live music every Friday and Saturday nights. We loved being able to go to the bar even with the kids to order a drink and then enjoy them by the fire pit. It was a perfect way to wind down after the busy day. Despite being downtown, it was very peaceful and quiet.
Stroud’s Sidewalk Cafe
Since our room had a Keurig, I never had a reason to visit the cafe. I will say that many have talked very highly of their coffee and for when the weather allows, they have a small outdoor patio. But it’s not just coffee and tea. They serve delicious sandwiches, salads, soups, and even desserts.
When we travel as a family, my husband usually lets the kids and I out by the door while he parks. But since this was a trip without him, we decided to use the Valet. This is a decision I will never regret. The bellhops were right there to help with our luggage which made it much easier with the kids. Any time I needed the car, it was super easy to request it and the staff always made it feel like it was a pleasure to assist us.
Parking is not free for public parking garage located adjacent to the hotel provides self-parking for $8.00 per day. The Chattanoogan provides valet parking for $12.00. The upcharge of valet was worth not having to walk to the further lot with the kids. But don’t feel like you always need to use your car as there are free shuttles that run around the city.
