During the kid’s April vacation week, we visited Chattanooga. Among the week’s activities was a visit to Rock City and their Fairy Tale Nights. This allowed us to see all that Rock City had to offer with the added fun of seeing all their favorite fairy tale characters come to life. Rock City gave us tickets in order to review this fun event and the kids couldn’t wait.
Right from the moment you step in line, the magic of the evening’s events fills the air. Once the trumpet announces the start to the evening, you enter through a castle gate. Here you are left to journey down the path…at your own risk.
An Adventure Through Fairy Tail Stories
We were greeted by a fearless knight who heeded us warning to beware of trolls and should we see one to call for him for he was at our service.
As we continued our journey through the realm, we met Jack of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and her Fairy godmother.
The night was filled with many more amazing characters such as:
- Seven Dwarfs
- Princess and the Frog
- Three Little Pigs
- Sword in the Stone
- Sleeping Beauty and her Prince
- A Wizard
- The Evil Queen
- Little Red Riding Hood
All the actors and actress were really into their characters and gave the kids individual attention. Rock City definitely catered to families with this event.
Lovers leap & see seven states
Lover’s Leap is where you can see seven states as you look down from the peak of Lookout Mountain. Lover’s Leap gets its name from a Native American legend:
A Chickasaw warrior named Sautee loved a beautiful Cherokee maiden named Nacoochee. Their two tribes were at war, and the two lovers were found out. The Cherokees sent out a raiding party which captured Sautee and hauled him to the ledge atop Lookout Mountain and threw him off to his death. While they were celebrating their deed, Nacoochee slipped unnoticed to the edge of the cliff. Her family couldn’t reach her in time, and the last word she spoke before leaping to her doom was “Sautee.”
No one can be sure if the legend is true but everyone agrees with how beautiful the views are.
“See Seven States” During the Battle of Lookout Mountain, both a Union soldier and a Confederate soldier claimed that seven states could be seen from the summit of the mountain. These stories are independent and recorded in their own journals.
Journey Through Fairy Tale Caverns
As we came to the end of our journey, we entered into the Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village. Here is where you can dioramas of classic childhood fairy tales rendered in retro glowing paints.
