Il Gesto Pizza & Vino Is Not Mall Food

Foxwoods Resort & Casino is a name widely known throughout the New England area.  Many travel an hour or more to visit, stay and play.  With shows, arcades, spas, pools and so much more, the entire family can come and experience the wonder of it all.

Since our move to Atlanta, Foxwoods added more shopping with Tangler Outlets built on the Grand Pequot Tower.  Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods is the nation’s first Tanger Outlets collection of premium brands under one roof and offers more than just great shopping but great food.

Il Gesto

You may be wondering why anyone would eat at the mall (so to speak) with all the restaurants inside Foxwoods itself?  And yes, there are some amazing choice dining opportunities but we’re not talking about mall food court either. Il Gesto Pizza & Vino gives you a more casual and fast service option without eating fast food.

If you have ever had dinner with a true Italian family then you know they are all about food, family and friends.  Once you step foot in Il Gesto you will feel like you walked through your Uncle Tony’s front door.  The friendly nature of the staff is not only a welcomed change from a crowded casino floor but a haven of relaxation.

Il Gesto

And what family meal isn’t complete without the food?  True authentic homemade food.  That’s what you get from Il Gesto.  Real fresh ingredients that you can taste in every bite.  The kitchen is within the dining room view, so you can see your meal prepared fresh.  And no one can miss the Pavesi oven, made in Modern Italy, for a true Neapolitan pizza.

The choices at Il Gesto Pizza & Vino are just enough to give you choices without being overbearing.  In my experience, this is a great way for any restaurant to do what they do right and consistent.  Like their Margarita Pizza which they offer every Monday for $3!  Il Gesto also offers a 9 for $9 selection for those looking for a deal.

You can find Italian favorites like Antipasto, Zuppas, Caprese Salads and more to start your meal.  We choose the Point Judith Calamari Fritti with the spicy caper sauce.  The calamari was fried to golden perfection and tasted even better it looked.  The sauce had just enough spice to give it a kick but not overbearing.  In fact, even Lil Man enjoyed the sauce and every last golden crumb on his plate.

Il Gesto

With a real pizza oven, you, of course, have to order pizza right?  So that is what Lil Man and I ordered.  For him, it was a classic Mozzarella and a Margarita for myself.

Il Gesto

The first thing you notice is the cheese.  There is no mistaking fresh mozzarella.  Soft, gooey and a great balance to many of the herbs used in Italian cooking.  Another thing you’ll notice from this fresh cheese is the pizza may appear to be ‘watery.’  But this is a true Neapolitan, wood-fired pizza and is exactly as it should be.  And the taste is anything but water.

Il Gesto

Diva chose the Shrimp Scampi and I barely was able to take a picture before she dove it to her plate.  She is not a big cream sauce type of person and cheese can be an issue.  So with simple ingredients of garlic, butter, and white wine, it was sauteed perfection on a plate.  The shrimp was plump and juicy and the pasta had just the right balance of garlic and butter.  There wasn’t a bite left on her plate.

Il Gesto

My daughter’s friend ordered Chicken parmesan with their Bolognese sauce. The sauce was the first thing I noticed about her dish.  A deep rich red filled with spices and ground beef.  Hearty would be my best word to describe it and filling.  Since she was not able to eat it all.

Il Gesto

Of course, no meal is complete without a desert.  Il Gesto offers a selection of fresh Gelato, Cannoli (Classic or Nutella) and Zeppolis.  We shared the Zeppolis and it was a perfectly balanced sweetness to end our meal.  The dough was light and fluffy.  The powdered sugar was not overpowering and the raspberry sauce brought a tang to balance the sugar.  Was a perfect portion of bakery-fresh goodness.  And you don’t feel a heavy doughy lump in your stomach as you still have to walk through the resort.

Il Gesto

From the minute you step into Il Gesto Trattoria you realize that this is more than just another pizza joint – it’s a foodie experience to remember. At Il Gesto, guests will find the centuries-old craft of making authentic Neapolitan pizza and more with a diverse menu featuring delicious plates of pasta and entrees made with top-quality ingredients and a fresh twist on classic Italian cuisine. A creative wine and beer selection and an array of desserts compliment the menu.
