With summer in full swing, the Ecotarium has some exciting events coming up and has partnered with the city of Worcester. As Worcester prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing on July 20th, join us at the EcoTarium to celebrate Apollo 11’s 1969 launch. From our digital planetarium to hands-on programs on the museum floor, the whole family is sure to have a blast learning about space exploration and the moon.
Lunar Launch Anniversary
July 16 @ 10:30 am – 3:30 pm
- See a scale model Saturn V rocket launch! *Weather dependent
- Get hands-on (and feet-on!) with stomp rockets and acid/base pop rockets
- Practice navigating on the moon with model lunar rovers
- Create and test parachutes to land “command modules” safely back on earth
- Explore the moon in a planetarium presentation *Not included with admission
- Watch footage of the 1969 Apollo 11 launch and dance to moon tunes
- Food and snacks from Teddy’s Lunch Box food truck

A series of events and exhibits throughout the day! Worcester is home to innovation and manufacturing that moved the needle in extra-planetary exploration. Apollo 11 moon landing technology, including astronaut suits, and the headset Neil Armstrong used to communicate with Earth, were all made in Worcester!
Join a Worcester Wide Celebration as Worcester will showcase its historic and existing innovation with a series of events and exhibits.
- Worcester Historical Museum
A special curation of moon landing technology from David Clark Company, and rocket relics from the “Father of Modern Rocketry” Robert H. Goddard. In partnership with Worcester Polytechnic Institute. 10:00am-4:00pm.
- Worcester Pop Up Gallery
3D planetary banners, cutting edge laser technology, automated instruments, and space-themed activities, art, and food. Learn to launch rockets and create tiny-scale model solar systems to take home in your pocket! Pop into the Pop Up! 20 Franklin St. Provided by Technocopia, The Food Hub, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Aldrich Astronomical Society, The EcoTarium, The Wonder Mission, Art Reach, Sisters in Stitches, and several local artists. 12:00-6:00pm.
- City Hall Common
Family-friendly rocket launches, paint tables, and games of catch. Use kitchen chemistry to launch canisters high in the sky and get hands-on with stomp rockets! Find us on the green space along Franklin St. In partnership with the EcoTarium, the Worcester Bravehearts and the Creative Hub. The 501st Legion, a Star-Wars costuming group, will also be visiting our downtown! 12:00-4:00pm
Technocopia is an exciting multi-generational maker space. It’s resources include a wood shop, metal shop, glass shop, digital fabrication lab, design studio, textile studio, and computer lab. Come visit our maker space for a tour, free seltzer, and a moon pie! Open from 2-5pm.
- Clark University – Robert H. Goddard Library
On public display, rare relics that highlight Robert H. Goddard’s experimentation and research in rocketry. The display includes excerpts from Dr. Goddard’s diaries, notebooks and test reports, many photographs, selected pieces of rockets, and related hardware. It also includes examples of awards presented posthumously to Dr. Goddard. On special display, will be Goddard’s 12-foot launch frame, the one that was used in the historic first ever successful liquid fuel rocket launch. 12:00-5:00pm
- Bravehearts Baseball Game
Join Worcester’s home baseball team, The Worcester Bravehearts, for an exciting space themed event with an end of game fireworks display! Tickets required. Game starts at 7:00 pm. At the game, Art Reach will be providing telescope viewing activities and make and take galaxy tiles.

We’ll transform the diverse, colorful and inspiring world of insects into puppets and masks. Join us to play, perform, dance, and discover!

Year-Round Food Service
Sometimes you just don’t want to pack a lunch and carry it around while you explore and run after the kids all day. Been there myself. Great news! EcoTarium will now have an on-site vendor.
Welcome Edible Creations by Gerry as the onsite food vendor commencing July 16, 2019. Edible Creations will be open 11:30 am – 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and on Monday holidays, and from 12:00 pm-3:00 pm on Sundays inside the Food Pavillion and in the Snack Area. Menu items will include burgers, sandwiches, salads, and wraps.
