REVIEW OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL #CORTEO
Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.
Corteo is the newest Cirque du Soleil’s production and is currently performing at the Infinite Energy Arena till September 2, 2018. With only 7 shows total, tickets will go fast. I was given tickets to review CORTEO and as always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.
I love Cirque Du Soleil the way most people love Disney. It’s a complete experience, that stimulates your senses from beginning to end. My excitement to see new shows hasn’t lessened in the 20 years now I have been going. Although I find it impossible to say which show is my favorite, I can say without a doubt Corteo is up there at the very top.
The stage curtains are absolutely exquisite! They enormous baroque-style Corteo Procession painted on them is truly a sight to behold, and within the lamplight of the orchestra, it felt both magical and romantic.
The story is a touching celebration of the life of a clown, and I laughed more in Corteo than I have in any other show. I had the benefit of going backstage and seeing how much genius is used to produce such a show, and still, the magic wasn’t ruined. The performers in each and every act are simply amazing, and I could watch them for hours. This is also one of the few things that the whole family loves coming too. At every age of our lives, we love when the Cirque comes to town.
SYNOPSIS OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL’S CORTEO:
The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music turns lyrical and playful carrying Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.
The concept and disposition of the stage bring the audience in a theatrical atmosphere like never seen before in Cirque du Soleil arena shows. The set curtains, inspired by the Eiffel Tower, and the central curtains, which were hand-painted, give a grandiose feel to the stage. This sets the tone for the poetry of Corteo.
