Top Places To Go OR Thing To Do On Rainy Days

When it’s raining outside and you have kids, it can be hard to keep everyone happy.  And I don’t mean just the kids.  Especially if you’re facing the early spring months where it can rain for days straight.  While it can be hard to come up with new ideas to keep little ones busy, we put together a list of places and indoor ideas to keep everyone happy.

Rainy Day Fun

  1. Your local library is a great resource on a rainy day. Many of the libraries run pre-school story time, have after-school activities and often run movie or game nights.
  2. Go to the mall.  Many malls have a children’s play area where your tot can run, jump and burn off energy.  You can even get a few errands done while there too.
  3. Visit a local museum.  Even a children’s museum has activities to keep the older ones entertained.
  4. Head to the local Rink.  Roller skating is fun and great exercise.
  5. Go swimming indoors.  Check your local YMCA or even some local hotels will let you use the pool for a small fee.
  6. An Arcade.  Places these days have more than just video games.  Bowling, laser tag, go-carts and more.  You kids won’t want to leave.
  7. Trampoline Park.  Jumping places are popping up everywhere.  These places are fun, great exercise and a bonus for sensory seekers.
  8. The movie theater.  While you won’t be moving, you can enjoy a new release and some tasty treats.
  9. Go out for lunch with some friends.
  10. Visit the Aquarium.  It’s always wet for the fish so a little rain isn’t going to stop their fun.

Don’t want to leave the house?  Want to save some cash?  We got you covered.

  1. Bake.  Kids love helping in the kitchen and baking is a great way to start learning some basics.
  2. Have an indoor picnic.  My kids always enjoyed this.  We would put a table cloth down on the floor and have snacks.  Bonus-easy cleanup of messes.
  3. Playdate.  Have a few of your kids’ friends over and they’ll entertain themselves.  Add a movie and popcorn with the indoor picnic idea and you’ll be the cool mom.
  4. Make cards or write a letter.  Handwritten notes may not be popular but people love to get them.  Send one to the grandparents or maybe a friend you haven’t seen in a while.
  5. Home spa day.  Have fun doing mini facials, mani/pedi’s or even putting on make-up.
  6. Make your own Play Dough.  We used to do this as kids and you can add food coloring for color.
  7. Treasure Hunt.  Hide things around the house for your children to find.
  8. Indoor Camping. Build a pillow or blanket fort and do fun activities inside them.
  9. Indoor Bowling.  Take some plastic bottles and a small ball and voilà.
  10. Homemade sensory bin.  Use items like Water beads, Aquarium rocks, Plastic pellets, Kinetic Sand, Colored Rice (use rubbing alcohol and food coloring to color), Colored Pasta, or Beans.
